Welcome to our Newlywed Adventures Travel blog! We are Charlie and Ali Higgins, a true modern romance; we swiped right on Hinge and the rest is history. Good thing we both have an affinity for travel and living life to the fullest because we have embarked on a journey abroad!

I, Ali, will be your main host on this travel blog as Charlie has a “real” job and actually has a 9-5 that he needs to be present for. Me on the other hand, I lucked out with this move and I am using this time to plan trips for us to not only explore everything the Netherlands has to offer, but also all the surrounding countries! Hello France, Spain, Italy, Greece… I mean literally you name it, I will be there!

About Me

I was born in Orange County, California, but have lived most of my life in Charlotte, North Carolina. I received my degree in Communications from Elon University in 2014 (small but gorgeous private college in Burlington, NC – look it up, you will want to visit I guarantee!) and immediately starting working in the corporate world after I graduated. I have spent most of the past 8 years working in Talent Acquisition for large companies (large as in literally thousands and thousands of employees) which has it’s perks… but also can be tiring at times. I absolutely love traveling and honestly was always looking forward to the weekend and whenever the next time I was taking a big chunk of my PTO.

About Charlie

I met Charlie back in 2018 (thank you, Hinge!) and we got married in April 2021. Charlie was born and raised in North Carolina and spent his whole life swimming (literally, he swam for Virginia Tech & then coached an extra year….) so he wasn’t able to really travel as much as I was able to. He has been working in the sales industry for a few different companies over the last 10 years and most recently joined a workplace equity platform company based out of Seattle. The company is expanding into EMEA and they asked Charlie if he was open to moving to western Europe for a bit…. ummm, yes?!?!

About The Blog

So here we are, I quit my job because they weren’t suited to have someone work remote overseas and we are now in Amsterdam with Charlie working remote & me picking up blogging, photography, cooking, exercising…. all the things that will bring me back to life after working 60+ hours a week for the past handful of years!

You will find some prior travel information on here from before we got married – some of the trip reviews are from family vacations that I still felt were important to share should anyone else be traveling to the same place/country! Most of what you will find on this blog, however, are travel reviews for a lot of places in the Netherlands, things to do in different cities, travel itineraries (yes, I will share the fun to-dos that we actually do ourselves!) as well as some of my photos! I’m picking photography back up, so follow along and watch my photos get a little better each month as I learn new things.
